Philip K. Dick’s Gluck

My final project for college was a design & fabrication of the ‘Gluck’ creature from Philip K. Dick’s ‘The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch.’

The Poster I made for the final year exhibition.

Fabrication on this piece began with a clay sculpt which was moulded in fiber-glass before being cast in silicone.

A core was produced from the mould. This core provides the mounting points for moving parts as well as acting as the skull of the gluck creature.

The finished creature was housed in a trap for display. The trap was built from plywood and hardboard. The mandibles and head crest are cast resin.

       

Immortal 3D Print

This project involved a redesign of the Immortal unit from Starcraft 2. A digital model was made and exported to a 3D printer where a physical model was produced.
The model was put together in 3D studio Max, here’s a few renders.

           

Unfortunatly the printer available to me was not a high resolution one. So, before printing, the model was broken down into its component pieces & these were then aligned so that the grain left behind by the printing process would have minimal effect on the finished physical model.

All the idividual printed pieces. Sanded, filled and ready for assembly.

The assembled physical model was then ready for paint. This model still awaits its proper paint finish.

Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg Latex Mask

This mask was made to represent my vision of Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg, the leader of giants from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire.
My concept took some of the classic ape-man and yeti imagery and stretched them over a skull that looks like it could chew rocks.

   

To make the mask the design was first sculpted over a life-size head cast, before being moulded in plaster and finally cast in latex.

 

Display Heads for Boutique

This is 1 of 4 heads made for displaying hand knit hats.

The heads were made by laminating ‘slices’ of plywood and carving away the excess. Matte laquer was applied as a finishing touch.

Digital Reconstruction of Blaschka Glass Model

As part of a project to understand & preserve the work of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka I chose this model of the Sea Snail – Trigonostoma Rugosum.

The model was aquired by the Dublin Natural History Museum in the late 1800s and it’s part of one of the biggest collections of the Blaschka’s work in the world.
My digital reconstruction of the model was made using a combination of 3D Studio Max and Mudbox software.

Low Budget Scale Stage

This stage was built quickly and cheaply for a local band to use in a music video. It’s mostly mount board and polystyrene.

Chicken Man

The Chicken Man character was fabricated using aluminium wire, sculpey, upholstery foam, latex and fluffy socks.
